A Sewer inspection is a service performed using a plumbing snake with a high-definition video camera at the tip. The mechanism is flexible, allowing the camera to travel through the pipe. The camera on the end sends a video signal back to the monitor both you and our plumbing our viewing above ground. After the plumber inspects the pipe, the digital recording of the inspection can be saved for future reference. So, if you live in a township that requires you to submit a video recording of your sewer inspection, you’ll have one.

Why Sewer Are Inspections Important?

  1. Sewer lines are underground so problems with your sewer are not always obvious: proper camera sewer inspections show these problems.
  2. With a proper inspection, we can discover potential problems before they cause severe damage.
  3. Sewer inspections can save your home and your money.

What Problems Can Be Identified in a Sewer Inspection?

  1. Low Areas – When debris gathers in the low area of your sewer pipe, it disrupts the flow. These areas are referred to as a Sag or Belly.
  2. Offset Pipes – An offset is where two sections of pipes meet but do not line up correctly. This can be caused by an environmental change like earth or root growth or shifting the pipes.
  3. Tree Roots – Roots can not only offset a pipe but can also crush a pipe. We see root intrusion during a sewer inspection more commonly in older cast iron piping. New PVC pipes have a much lower chance of causing problems with your sewer system.
  4. Build Up of Grease – Garbage disposals can cause a grease buildup that sticks to the side of your pipes. Enough grease and other substances will cause blockages and be seen during a sewer inspection.
  5. Cracking – Cracks in cast iron pipes are common to see but if there are leaks outside of the pipe, it is recommended to be repaired to avoid damage.
  6. Pipe Collapse – Although a pipe collapse is uncommon, it can happen due to the issues discussed above. In almost every case, your line will need to be replaced. Fixing only the problem section of your line can cause more problems for you down the road.
  7. Township Inspection Requirements

    • Upper Darby Twp. Sewer Requirements – Ordinance No. 3070
    • Middletown Twp. Sewer Requirements – Chapter 180, Section 180-4
    • Nether Providence Twp. Sewer Requirements – Ordinance No. 782
